Tough work this Motor Racing Lark

As all Formula Student and Formula SAE competitors well know, it’s a tough business we’re in. All teams constantly have to fight against the clock so they battle against each other. Taking this on board however, there’s also a time to sit back and relax, and in some cases partake in some friendly shenanigans.

A minor suspension issue at the practise track at the 2004 Formula Student Competition allows Tom Mulholland to kick back and “focus” on the drive ahead. Sheer dedication.

The "Pillar of Shame” was established in the UCD Racing Office in the early days of UCD R1. Over the years it has become more and more adorned with embarrassing quotes, double entendres, and compromising photographs. It has become an institution in it’s own right and serves as a deterrent for any foolish behaviour (well that’s the idea anyway). Here's a sample of what can be found decorating the pillar...

Tom never was a man to hide his opinions. He was however the type of man that would wear a T-shirt to voice then.
That Frodo will do anything just to get his ring
We used to have a problem with rodents, we sorted that out but we still have these two floating about the workshop
Some team members just can't stop living in the seventies
And there are those that just refuse blatently to grow up
This is fairly self explanatory
We shelled out the cash for a cleaner to come in every once in a while, unfortunately he had his sights on more than just cleaning. We had to pry him out of the car on more than one occasion
